Data Visualization in Pharmaceutical Research and Development

The continued evolution of the regulatory landscape in the pharmaceutical industry has recast the role of chemical engineering in the development of processes for the large-scale manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. The expectations from the global health authorities have increased regarding proven demonstration of adequate process performance, process robustness, and quality control across development and manufacturing scales. These expectations require a high level of process understanding and have substantially increased the demands of experimental data collection and  data analysis. To address these requirements the utilization established and emerging automation, data aggregation, data visualization and modeling have been leveraged as powerful tools to gain process understanding. This presentation will describe the implementation of Data Exploration Analysis to results obtained with automated parallel experimentation for batch reaction characterization.

About the Speaker:

Jose E. Tabora is a Research Fellow in the Engineering Development Department  at Bristol Myers Squibb where he has worked in process development since 2007. Prior to BMS Jose worked in the research and development organizations of Eli Lilly and Merck. Jose completed his Ph.D. at The University of Virginia. His research interests lie in the area of statistics and modeling. In recent years, he has focused on better techniques for establishing and evaluating the design space of pharmaceutical processes.  Jose is also an adjunct assistant professor at Manhattan College where he has been teaching courses in reaction kinetics and reaction design since 2010.
